‘Scream 5’ is Coming: Ghostface Actor Shares Favorite Part of Filming Series

It’s official – Scream 5 is happening and will (hopefully) hit theaters in January 2022. This is the first in franchise that will not be directed by horror master, Wes Craven, as he sadly passed in 2015. Here’s what we know so far:

  • The OG three will be returning for the fifth installment – Neve Campbell (Sidney Prescott), David Arquette (Dewey Riley), and Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers-Riley) will be back in action against Ghostface.
  • The film includes some of today’s hottest stars, including: Jack Quaid, Jenna Ortega, and Dylan Minnette.
  • The film will also bring back Marley Shelton, who played Deputy Judy Hicks in 2011’s Scream 4.
  • The movie is slated to begin filming this month in North Carolina.

The Tidbit hopes that Scream veterans Roger Jackson (aka Ghostface’s voice in each film) and Dane Farwell (Ghostface’s body/stunts) will return for the fifth time running. Without these two, it wouldn’t be the same.

Back in high school – before I completely comprehended what being a journalist/interviewer meant – I wrote to Farwell and asked him what his favorite part of working on the Scream films was. He wrote back and said,

“the best part of working in the Scream films is working with Wes Craven and the cast & crew. We all get along together so well it doesn’t seem like work.”

It will be interesting to see what this film will looks like without Craven, but fans were given assurance that it would be respectful of his legacy. In a recent interview with Cinema Blend, original Scream writer, Kevin Williamson, said he is excited about Scream 5 and working with screenwriters, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

I’m excited to reteam with David and work with Jamie, Guy and Radio Silence on the next Scream. Their take on the movie is both original, inventive and honors Wes’ legacy in a wonderful way. Ready or Notwas my favorite horror film of last year and I can’t wait to see what their amazing talents bring to the Scream universe. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.

Kevin Williamson stated to CinemaBlend

Many fans are curious if the film will implement portions of what was originally planned for Scream 3, which featured one of the original Scream killers, Stu Macher (played by Matthew Lillard), to still be alive and orchestrating the murders from prison.

While the storyline will be kept heavily under wraps, we can hope that it plays on some of the tried and true Scream favorites, like Wes Craven’s love of the Red Herring Fallacy. Regardless, we can assume that the script and vision for the film is great, as the original three actors would most likely not return if it was no good and didn’t pay tribute to their friend and colleague, Wes Craven.
