Energy Healer & Best-Selling Author, Marla Goldberg, Talks Self-Improvement Month

September is Self-Improvement Month – something that we think should be a daily focus. In honor of this month’s distinction, we sought out the valuable knowledge of an expert on the subject of self-help. Marla Goldberg – Energy Healer, Intuitive, Speaker, Teacher, Host of Guided Spirit Conversations Podcast, and Best-Selling Author of My F*cking Long Journey To Loving Myself: A Guide to a Shorter Path – was the natural choice to make the face of Self-Improvement Month for The Tidbit.

I had the pleasure of chatting with her about her work, her self-help journey, and advice for those looking to make a change in their lives.

The Tidbit: For those unfamiliar with the practice, what exactly is energy healing and what are the health benefits?

Marla Goldberg: Energy healing is a method of healing that works on manipulating subtle energy systems of the body: mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.  Since everything is made up of energy from the chair you’re sitting on, to the device that you’re reading this from, to the seemingly blank space around you, these energies can affect one in a variety of ways.

There are many ways that a person can be affected from these energetic disruptions, from subtle shifts, to more noticeable effects.  Some of the subtle ways that energy can affect one is feeling that something doesn’t feel right and you can’t distinguish what it is or why you’re feeling this way.  You can have trouble sleeping, or you are plagued with depression or anxiety.

These issues can be due to imprints, programs or blocks from this lifetime, or from past life issues. Wherever these challenges were created, they can be dissolved, released, let go of through the various methods of energy healing.

I have witnessed some miraculous changes in my clients, from releasing pain bodies, receiving better and more restful sleep, more successful trajectory in their business, to clearing entities from a dwelling allowing the family to live more comfortably in their home.

TT: What does the concept of self-improvement look like for you?

MG: Self-improvement is a daily practice, an ongoing journey to me. I work daily at being the best me I can be. I do this by invoking my gratitude and prayer practice daily.  I try to treat my body like a temple, feeding it the best food I can and doing a form of movement each day.  The movement can consist of yoga, weight training, or walking my dog – for me it doesn’t matter as long as you’re doing something that makes you move.  I also try to sleep 7-8 hours a day.  I work at being kind to everyone. All of this is part of my ongoing self-improvement practice.

If I want to improve in some area I may not be strong in such as speaking another language or learning a new skill, then I take the steps necessary to learn in the areas I’m lacking in, and I ask for help in the areas I know I’m absolutely challenged in.  To me asking and receiving support when needed is also a part of improving ones self.

TT: If someone is in a place where they know they need to make a great change in their life but they’re scared, where would you suggest they start?

MG: I was in that place, so I can empathize with what I call the “veil of fear”. What I learned from the various times when I was stuck like a deer in headlights and was afraid to move forward was to take that leap.  I have yet to get away from a negative situation and wish I had stayed.  I found that what was on the other side of the veil was much better and brighter than I had even imagined.

As every situation is subjective for each person, I would suggest that they start where they are.  If that means reaching out to a friend who you know will give you guidance for your good and not theirs, then that would be a first step.  If you don’t feel that there is anyone who you would want to confide in or trust for that guidance, I would suggest finding a professional in the area you need support and guidance in.

Please know that you may have to put in effort to bring about the change you are seeking. But know that, given some time, when you look back to where you were before the change to where you will be, weeks, months or years down the road, you will be so happy and grateful you chose to go through that veil.

TT: How did you make the decision (or gain the confidence) to share your journey with the world?

MG: When I began writing my book My F*cking Long Journey To Loving Myself: A Guide to a Shorter Path, I had no idea what I was going to write. I hid myself away and just wrote.  The only part of my book that was intentional was that I wanted help people shift, enhance or tweak their current lives to live the life they are divinely meant to live.

After three weeks in seclusion, I realized that I was writing was my life’s story, in all it’s dysfunctional glory.  I included the many decisions I made that didn’t serve me well as well as the steps I took to turn my life around when it hit rock bottom.

I wanted more from this project then to just air my “dirty laundry”, I wanted it to have teeth and grit, so I added the most important TTT’s (Tips, Tools, and Techniques) I used to help me make a dramatic shift in my life.  I still use these TTT’s, though after all these years, I’m not using them as often as I had in the past.

While rereading what I wrote, I was guided to incorporate the TTT’s into my story. I added the methods I would have used if I had known about them earlier in my life, and what I used once I learned them.

So I guess, in a way, the decision was made for me, and I’m grateful each and every day knowing the somewhere my lessons are helping others learn theirs faster, to get to what I call “the sweet spot of life”.

TT: Why do you think it’s important to practice and focus on self-care in one’s everyday life?

MG: I liken the reason that I believe it’s important to practice and focus on self-care daily is like taking a shower, brushing your teeth or washing your face.  You don’t do it just once or sporadically and stay clean and fresh.   It’s the same with self-care.  To keep your channels open, clean and flowing, one must focus on their practice on a daily basis.

TT: What projects are you working on now?

MG: In addition to working with my clients, I am currently developing a journal to support the journaling technique from my book, a submission in a compilation book; The Kindness Crusader.  I’m traveling around the country promoting my book. I am hosting my weekly podcast; Guided Spirit Conversations, and I’ve just begun developing a Summit for the collective consciousness at this time will be in the summer or fall of 2021.

    Interesting article! I’ve been doing this without knowing it for awhile now, But I doubt there’s enough room here to explain everything from the past 23 years with me!
